While We Were Watching Downton Abbey

While We Were Watching Downton Abbey

Wendy Wax

Fiction / Contemporary / Humor and Comedy

FROM THE AUTHOR OF TEN BEACH ROAD AND OCEAN BEACH, A NEW NOVEL OF FOUR FRIENDS—AND A SHARED PASSION THAT COULD CHANGE THEIR LIVES. When the concierge of The Alexander, a historic Atlanta apartment building, invites his fellow residents to join him for weekly screenings of Downton Abbey, four very different people find themselves connecting with the addictive drama, and—even more unexpectedly—with each other… Samantha Davis married young and for the wrong reason: the security of old Atlanta money—for herself and for her orphaned brother and sister. She never expected her marriage to be complicated by love and compromised by a shattering family betrayal. Claire Walker is now an empty nester and struggling author who left her home in the suburbs for the old world charm of The Alexander, and for a new and productive life. But she soon wonders if clinging to old dreams can be more destructive than having no dreams at all. And then there's Brooke MacKenzie, a woman in constant battle with her faithless ex-husband. She's just starting to realize that it's time to take a deep breath and come to terms with the fact that her life is not the fairy tale she thought it would be. For Samantha, Claire, Brooke—and Edward, who arranges the weekly gatherings—it will be a season of surprises as they forge a bond that will sustain them through some of life's hardest moments—all of it reflected in the unfolding drama, comedy, and convergent lives of Downton Abbey.

Nothing but Love

Nothing but Love

Holly Jacobs

Romance / Mystery / Humor and Comedy

A WLVH Radio Series and Everything But... Series short story.Take one WLVH disc jockey who adopts a special dog.Add in one man who thinks he's lost everything.Let one Everything But... grandmother, Nana Vancy, stir things up.And maybe find Nothing But Love in this story that's full of Christmas magic. From the AuthorI wrote this story to give readers a brief introduction to my two Avalon series, The WLVH Radio series, and The Everything But... series.  I wrote the books for Avalon, a small mainstream publisher that distributed beautiful hardback books to libraries.  In June 2012, Montlake Romance bought Avalon, along with its backlist. Montlake has rereleased all the books in both series in both paperback and eBook versions. As a writer I'm thrilled to see the two series get a chance to reach a whole new group of readers.  And as a dog owner, I'm happy to tell a story about a special little dog who found her forever home with a WLVH disc jockey...and the man she falls for.  I have written romantic comedy since I started writing.  Someone once called one of my comedies "frothy" and I was so complimented. That's exactly what these books are meant to be, "frothy" treats.  Stories to give you a break from the real world for a little bit.  I'm still writing more emotional, heart-tugging stories for Harlequin's SuperRomance.  I enjoy writing them as well.  But my first love is frothy romantic comedies, or sweet humorous romances. I hope you'll check out the WLVH Radio and the Everything But... books. And I so hope you enjoyed this first Nothing But... short story!  Merry Christmas!HollyWVLH Series and Everything But...series short stories:Nothing But Love, 12/12Nothing But Heart, 2/13Nothing But Luck, 3/13WLVH Radio--where love is more than just a song--series:Pickup LinesLovehandlesNight CallsLaugh LinesEverything But--where every Hungarian knows that words have power--series:Everything But a Groom (named one of Booklist's Top 10 Romances of '08)Everything But a BrideEverything But a WeddingEverything But a Christmas EveEverything But a MotherEverything But a Dog From the Back CoverWatch for a second short story,  Nothing But Heart, 2/13.And the final short story, Nothing But Luck, 3/13.

Ward No. 6 and Other Stories, 1892-1895

Ward No. 6 and Other Stories, 1892-1895

Anton Chekhov

Classics / Fiction / Humor and Comedy

These stories from the middle period of Chekhov's career show him exploring complex, ambiguous and often extreme emotions. Influenced by his own experiences as a doctor, 'Ward No. 6', set in a mental hospital, is a savage indictment of the medical profession. 'The Black Monk', portraying an academic who has strange hallucinations, explores ideas of genius and insanity; in 'Murder', religious fervour leads to violence; while in 'The Student', Chekhov's favourite story, a young man recounts a tale from the gospels and undergoes a spiritual epiphany. In all the stories collected here, Chekhov's characters face madness, alienation and frustration before they experience brief, ephemeral moments of insight, often earned at great cost, where they confront the reality of their existence.
